Malala’s new memoir will be her ‘most personal book yet’

Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai is known for her advocacy for education for girls around the world from a young age. She is now working on a new memoir after her first book, I Am Malala, which was published in 2013 and narrated her life. The new memoir will be based on the activist’s life after the events that happened since then.

Malala took to Twitter to announce the news. “I am overjoyed to announce that I am working on my next book! The last few years of my life have been marked by extraordinary transformation — finding independence, partnership and, ultimately, myself.

“This October will be a decade since I Am Malala was published, shortly after my 16th birthday. I am excited to share what has happened since and continue my journey with the incredible teams at Atria books in the US, W&N books in the UK and more countries coming soon,” she wrote.

Malala gained international attention after she survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban in 2012 while she was on a school bus in Swat District after taking an exam. She and two other girls were shot by a Taliban gunman in an attempt to attack her for her activism. She was 15 years old at the time.

Her new memoir is currently untitled and has no scheduled date of release yet, announced Atria Books — an imprint of Simon & Schuster — on Monday, according to AP.

I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban became a million-seller. The next year, Malala won the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17, becoming the youngest recipient of the award.

Since then she has graduated from Oxford University and married Asser Malik, a manager with the Pakistan Cricket Board. She also has a production company, Extracurricular, which has a deal with Apple TV+ for various films and television projects.

“The last few years of my life have been marked by extraordinary transformation, and all the anguish and joy that accompanies growth,” Yousafzai, 25, said in a statement released by Atria. “This is my most personal book yet and I hope that readers will find recognition, reassurance, and insight in my story.”
