Lahooti and KMC are organising Mai Karachi, a fundraising concert for flood relief on October 2

Lahooti and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are collaborating to organise Mai Karachi, a fundraiser for flood relief to be held at Burns Garden on October 2 from 1pm to 11pm. The event includes a concert and a folk art market, and all proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the cause.

On Sunday, Saif Samejo, founder of Pakistani Sufi band The Sketches, and Lahooti, the organisation that holds the annual Lahooti Melo, shared the poster for the event. “As a grassroots cultural organisation from Sindh, Lahooti has always worked for social change through music, art, poetry and dance. The floods have affected many marginalised communities in Sindh including indigenous folk artists and their families. Join us or donate,” he wrote in the caption and added a link featuring several ways to contribute, including ticket sales for the concert.

The organisation mentioned that all ticket sale proceeds from the “biggest fundraising concert” will go to flood relief aid and rehabilitation. Responding to a query about on the spot tickets in the comments, Samejo said they will be available at the venue as well.

The singer highlighted the prime objective for “Coming Together” and said it is to help artists in Sindh who suffered from recent floods and lost their homes. “They aren’t even having events/performances to earn their bread and butter,” he added. Samejo also said a part of the donations will go to some reliable organisation who are already helping flood affectees on ground. “We too have ambition to set some precedent by creating some model with the help of experts that can inspire others,” he said.

The revealed performers for the concert include musicians The Sketches, Sounds of Kolachi, Laal band, Nafs, Hamza Akram Qawwal and Quaid Ahmed ft. DJ Zaphixx. The folk art market will feature crafts from the RLCC and clothing brands Sabhiya’s and Avari.
