BTS nominated for Group of the Year category at VMAs for fourth consecutive year
K-pop boyband BTS strikes again! The group of seven, now a global sensation, has been nominated for the “Group of the Year” category once again at the Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2022.
MTV revealed the nominees on its site prior to the voting. BTS stands a strong chance of bagging it, having won the award the last three years already. Other contenders for the award include groups such as Blackpink, Imagine Dragons and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The ‘Butter’ singers have received a total of six nods, including nominations for “Best K-pop”, “Best metaverse performance”, “Best visual effects” and “Best choreography”.
American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth’s first collaboration with BTS member Jungkook, ‘Left and Right’, which dropped in June, has also been nominated in the “Song of the Summer” category. The breezy pop song remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven straight weeks. The official music video crossed 170 million views almost two months after its release.
It is standing against Beyonce’s ‘Break My Soul’, Doja Cat’s ‘Vegas’, Drake’s ‘Wait For U’ and Harry Style’s ‘Late Night Talking,’ among others.
BTS made its debut in June 2013 and became a worldwide sensation with its upbeat hits and social campaigns aimed at empowering young people.
Currently, the K-pop group has more than 67 million subscribers on their official YouTube channel, making them the third most subscribed music artists on the platform. The group falls behind Blackpink and Justin Bieber.
