The trailer for film The Legend of Maula Jatt starring Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Mahira Khan is out now

The “10-year journey” of the creation of Punjabi film The Legend of Maula Jatt finally comes to a close. After legal battles and years of delay, the film is set to release on October 13 in cinemas worldwide and the action-filled trailer is out now.

The two-and-a-half minute trailer was posted on Sunday captioned, “From times untold where legends are written in soil with blood, a hero is born. Maula Jatt, a fierce prizefighter with a tortured past seeks vengeance against his arch nemesis Noori Natt, the most feared warrior in the land of Punjab. Loyalties are challenged and families torn apart in this epic tale of truth, honour and justice.”

The clip is a dip back in time and that is reflected in its set and costume design alone. Re-telling the story of the rivalry between Maula Jatt and Noori Natt, played by Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi respectively, it starts with a mother woefully exclaiming that she didn’t know with the conception of her son, she was bringing death to the entire village.

From there it picks up pace and shows the ferocity of the two leads and the epic battle between them. The dialogues featured in the trailer chime with rhymes, setting an iconic tone for the movie. With bits of romance and tonnes of action, the film promises to be an intense story of war.

Directed by Bilal Lashari, The Legend of Maula Jatt also stars Mahira Khan, Humaima Malick, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Nayyer Ejaz, Shafqat Cheema, Raheela Agha, Zia Khan and Saima Baloch. The Punjabi film is being produced by Ammara Hikmat’s Encyclomedia and Lashari Films. The distribution will be done by Nadeem Mandvivalla under Mandviwalla Entertainment.

The film is a reboot of Yunus Malik’s 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt — which led to the now-resolved copyright issues — and will be the very popular pair’s second project together after Humsafar 11 years ago.

Mandvivalla told Variety, “It is our immense pleasure to become a part of the most ambitious project from Pakistan, The Legend of Maula Jatt, an Encyclomedia and Lashari Films production. Releasing the spectacular The Legend Of Maula Jatt is not only going to be challenging but is also perceived to create a milestone in the history of Pakistani cinema.”

“A 10-year journey of creating an impossible film will conclude this October in a cinema near you,” said the film director. Hikmat, the film producer added, “I hope this film proves to be one of those history-defining moments for South Asian cinema that it deserves.”
