Billie Eilish among 397 new members invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
We all know about the Oscars — a renowned award show where film and film stars are celebrated — but did you know about the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the body that selects the Oscar winners? Well, that body just added some new members to it.
This year’s list has just been released to announce the people who have been invited to become the newest members of the Academy, among which are many famous actors and singers, such as Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, The Queen’s Gambit actor Anya Taylor-Joy and many others.
This year, 397 new members were added to the Academy’s ranks, according to Variety. This brings the total number of members to 10,665 — provided all the new members accept the invitation — out of which 9,665 can vote for the upcoming Academy Awards.
Members of the Academy are the ones who choose which films to nominate and who vote on the winners. The members include everyone from actors and singers to directors and producers.
Some notable members from this years list include Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, who won an Oscar at the 94th Academy Awards for the theme song in the James Bond movie No Time to Die, which was composed by the siblings. Actor Jamie Dornan also received membership as did actor Ariana Debose.
