Koffee with Karan will not be returning

Indian filmmaker and host Karan Johar has announced the end of his talkshow Koffee with Karan that was scheduled for a seventh season in June.

Johar posted the update on his Instagram account on May 4 captioned, "IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT" without offering an explanation as to why the show was cancelled.

"Hello, Koffee with Karan has been a part of my life, and yours, for six seasons now," he wrote. "I'd like to think we've made an impact and even found our place in pop culture history. And so, it is with a heavy heart I announce that Koffee with Karan will not be returning..."

Word about the seventh season had spread less than two weeks ago and preparations had allegedly already begun. “Karan is currently shooting for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and it’s in May when he will wrap up a major chunk of the film. One calling it a schedule wrap, Karan will commence his work on his chat show, Koffee with Karan. The planning and pre-production has already begun and the team is now all ready to start shooting from mid-May,” a source close to the development told Pinkvilla. The show was to expectedly go on air in June on Star Network.

The predicted guest list had also been leaked and it featured actors Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif and Siddhant Chaturvedi. Newlyweds Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were also to make their first onscreen appearance as a married couple on season 7.

The show is very popular with fans who loved getting behind the scene info on their favourite celebrities as they sipped coffee and spilled tea. The cancellation came as a shock to them as they were looking forward to the upcoming season.

Netizens were not the only ones disappointed — Indian rapper Raja Kumari termed it "the end of an era" and Indian actor Tanuj Virwani posted a broken heart in the comment section.

All great things come to an end — whatever his reasons may be, we wish Johar all the best for his future pursuits.
