'No Mia, no Fast X': Vin Diesel recalls day Jordana Brewster was excluded from latest film
Vin Diesel often pens special notes for his Fast squad on Instagram and his latest post appreciates his sister from the film, Jordana Brewster, who had initially been removed from the cast of Fast X, the second-last film of the street racing franchise.
Diesel and Brewster play as Dominic and Mia Toretto in the film. The latest addition to the family was their brother, Jakob Toretto, who was seen as an antagonist in F9.
On Wednesday, the Riddick star took to Instagram and shared when he first read the script for Fast X and got to know that Brewster was not part of it. She was whom he "attributed the brotherhood of Dom and Brian (Paul Walker) to". He also said that knowing this, he was disappointed and couldn't see how he should continue as Dom in the film.
"I wasn’t going to make another Fast unless Brian was back in Four. I don’t need to remind you (Brewster) of the petitions you sent the studio for Letty’s return at the the end of Five. Side note, you will never believe who corrected the very important role of Mia… my daughter, the alpha angel, who told the director very plainly and honestly 'no Mia no Fast 10'," he wrote.
Diesel also recalled when his daughter was born and he was filming with Brewster and she was the first to know about her birth. He wrote that there isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't want to time travel and talk Walker out of heading back to LA after Thanksgiving weekend when he passed away in a fatal accident. "Every Fast film I make must at the core always honor my brother Pablo. In the real world, I will always look after his family, because in the real world he is family," Diesel wrote.
The actor also recalled when Walker's daughter, Meadow Walker, asked him to walk her down the aisle and how he teared up to do the duty with "pride and honour".
"Fast could never have been here without the profound love and brotherhood between Dom and Brian, established in 2001. Yeah, I am talking too much, but damn, life is short and your comment touched me and hit a cord. Thank you for believing in me, in us… I won’t rest until I make you (Brewster), him… and the universe proud," he concluded.
The official cast for the Fast X film includes Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, Daniela Melchior, Jason Momoa and Cardi B. The second-last film will hit theatres on May 19, 2023.
