Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's mehndi was full of desi wedding-wear inspo
Until Wednesday we weren't sure whether Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's wedding was actually happening but yesterday's intimate mehndi ceremony held at the couple's home in Vastu, Mumbai finally confirmed that a wedding is indeed taking place. Their mehndi ceremony was attended by close family and friends of the bride and groom and it was a fashion parade.
The building was bedecked with lights and décor as guests were seen arriving Wednesday afternoon. Among them were Kapoor's cousins Kareena and Karisma Kapoor, his aunt Rima Jain and cousins Armaan and Aadar Jain, Nitasha Nanda. His mother Neetu Kapoor and sister Riddhima were also pictured in a car and in different outfits later. Bhatt's father Mahesh Bhatt and half-sister Pooja Bhatt were also there. It was also attended by Bhatt's godfather and filmmaker Karan Johar, Shweta Bachchan Nanda and her close friend Akansha Ranjan Kapoor.
Bollywood weddings are glamorous events and it's safe to say the celebrities attending the event gave us a lot of desi wedding-wear inspo. Some of the groom's side donned outfits by Manish Malhotra, including Kareena and Riddhima, who opted for metallic silver hues. The Heroine actor wore an ivory lehenga choli set embellished with metallic silver handwork, paired with a three-tier diamond necklace and side braided hairstyle while the groom's sister wore a grey sequinned sari with a matching v-neck blouse that she paired with a statement necklace and soft makeup.
The groom's mother wore an ivory lehenga as well but with a pop of colour. The lehenga piece by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla had paisley and floral elements embroidered in various pastel and vibrant colour themes all over the lehenga itself and the blouse as well as the border of the dupatta. Neetu paired the look with a polki diamond necklace and simple blow-dried hair.
Karisma on the other hand wore a traditional pishwas by Punit Balana that had intricate handwork on the bodice paired with a crimplene textured pishwas itself. The outfit had a colourful element — a white, red and green embroidered border — on the straight pants worn by the actor. The look was paired with a matching dupatta with gota and matching gold embroidery. The actor tied the look with a sleek bun, a teeka and jhumkis.
Karisma and Riddhima took to Instagram to share the mehndi they got on their hands and feet.
The Andaz Apna Apna actor shared a photo on Instagram and said she "loves mehndi" while showing off the mehndi design on her foot. The groom's sister, on the other hand, shared a Boomerang of her hand. Unfortunately, no photos have been shared of the bride and groom themselves.
Today a haldi ceremony is being held at their house. The event seems to be an even more intimate affair. According to Indian Media, the wedding will take place tomorrow, April 15, however in a recent video of the groom's sister and mother the wedding is going to happen today.
The media also reported that the to-be married couple will host a reception for industry friends on April 17.
