Rutaba Yaqub's new song 'anay wala kal/ghubaray' has made its way onto our summer playlist
If you're in the mood for some dreamy indie pop, we recommend you hop on over to YouTube and give singer Rutaba Yaqub's latest song 'aney wala kal/ghubaray' a listen.
Yaqub's latest song, with the band Roots, was released on YouTube on March 3.
It's the first track from the singer's debut album. On YouTube, the song's been described as "a track about the bittersweetness of having arrived in the future, seeing how things turn out, but not being able to tell your past self. It's the desire to be able to communicate with someone looking for faith in the future".
'aney wala kal/ghubaray' combines Yaqub's soft vocals with some retro charm. The song has been conceptualised, composed and written by Yaqub herself, and has been produced, mixed and mastered by Alexandre Llanes. Yaqub took to Instagram to share that the song's music video was seven months in the making and how she's "glad it's out". The MV was directed by Asim Hussain and Jibran and produced by Yaqub and Manifest.
You might recognise the singer from her stints on Nescafe Basement and Pepsi Battle of the Bands. Her career in music started when she was picked up by Xulfi to sing backing vocals for Nescafe Basement. In 2017, Yaqub and a friend decided to make a band for the then upcoming Pepsi Battle of the Bands. The band, which decided to call itself Roots, met for the first time the night before they auditioned for the show. Within six hours, they managed to build a chemistry that led to them making it all the way to the top three on the show. Yaqub, alongside Roots, has since released songs such as 'Hold On', 'Automatic Yellow' and 'Daira-e-ufuq',
Her latest song from her debut album definitely earned a spot on our summer playlist. What are your thoughts on the song?
