Meesha Shafi drops new single 'Rajkumari' to celebrate South Asian women on International Women's Day

It's International Women's Day and what better way to celebrate than through art? Meesha Shafi dropped a surprise single dedicated to South Asian women and she's collaborated with a variety of female public figures to showcase diversity. The music video features women with different forms and abilities — it includes a transgender woman, a pregnant woman and a woman in a wheelchair.

"SURPRISE DROP! #Rajkumari is now live on Spotify. Wishing all the queens a very happy #internationalwomensday," the singer captioned an Instagram post with cover art for 'Rajkumari'.

Produced by Abdullah Siddiqui and Shafi, the music video is directed by Awais Gohar and stars transgender woman and activist Jannat Ali, activist Nayab Gohar, lawyer and disability advocate Sana Khurshid, digital creator Huma Mobin and and poet and artist Zahra Hameed.

"Celebrating all my #SouthAsian #QUEENS on #internationalwomensday," the Hot Mango Chutney Sauce singer captioned a teaser of the music video.

The 'Rajkumari' music video features women bedecked in traditional jewellery, donning outfits befit for a different era to give off that vibe of grandeur and royalty. Dark lighting highlights the women as the camera zooms in on their makeup. Glamorous yet arresting, the video captures attention.

To have a strong, female artist drop a surprise single on a day that celebrates women truly feels like the perfect gift. To involve a diverse line of women sends an even more powerful message and we're here for it.
