Britney Spears thought she had cancer after being paralysed during her conservatorship
Pop star Britney Spears has fought long and hard to get released from a 2008 court-imposed conservatorship sought by her father and the world has supported her via the #FreeBritney movement that ended in success in Nov 2021. After 14 years of living a life controlled by her father, the American pop star has made it a point to live her life freely, showcasing all she does on social media and sharing her story with the public.
In a since-deleted lengthy Instagram post on Feb 10, the 40-year-old singer-songwriter shared one of her experiences at a controlled facility and said she had a cancer scare from being paralysed waist down due to her confinement.
Describing her forced four-month long stay at the treatment facility, she wrote, "I could only use my upper body because I had to sit in a chair eight hours a day and gave like eight gallons of blood every week!"
Spears expressed how extreme of a 'treatment' it was for someone just struggling with depression. “The only thing honestly disturbing about me is depression. But you don’t take people out of their homes for that!”
The singer said she was so compliant with their instructions that when she started questioning the extremes she had to undergo, she gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe she had cancer and they were just trying to take care of her. "At one point I thought, wait do I have cancer and they don't want me to know and this is some secret therapy for people with cancer? Honestly it was insane the hours I had to be available to seven different people! I got extremely ill in that place, I couldn't talk, I was on a high dose of lithium, it was demoralising!"
According to Buzzfeed News, Spears has said in an earlier statement, “My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a key role in punishing me, they should be in jail.”
