Euphoria renewed for season 3 after viewership doubles for season 2
Fans aren't done with Euphoria season two and there's already an announcement for season three! Considering the spike in viewership and how episodes have been trending every week, it doesn't come as a surprise to us that HBO's Euphoria will be returning to our screens once more with its iconic neon lighting, defining fashion statements and crisscrossing storylines.
HBO and Euphoria made the announcement on their Instagram pages with the caption, "#EUPHORIA has been renewed for season 3."
“Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken Season two to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart,” announced Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, in a statement. “We couldn’t be more honoured to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into Season three.“
The Emmy-winning high school drama follows a group of students as they struggle with drugs, love, social media and money as they come of age while trying to establish their identity. The cast includes Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Eric Dane, Algee Smith, Angus Cloud and musician Dominic Fike.
The junior year renewal was inevitable as the first three instalments of season two have nearly doubled in per-episode viewership in comparison to its freshman season. Season two’s premiere on Jan 9 garnered 14 million total viewers across HBO and HBO Max to date. That is close to an increase of 100% from the 6.6 million average audience size that was drawn by season one’s episodes during its summer 2019 runtime.
The season two premiere was also the number one most social premium cable episode since the Game of Thrones finale in May 2019.
Considering the statistics and the tremendous buzz the show generates every week, it seemed like a predictable move to carry the story forward and add another season. The binge-worthy show trends every week on social media, clearly indicating people want more.
