Five movies we're excited about from Netflix's 2022 lineup
Have you been browsing through Netflix and complaining that there's nothing to watch? Well, this year, that's not going to be a problem. The streaming service released a preview of its 2022 film lineup and it seems like it's going to be us, our couch and Netflix for the entire year. The cinematic trailer opens up to Jennifer Lopez's The Mother and ends with the much awaited sequel of Daniel Craig's Knives Out.
If anyone said 2022 wasn't Netflix's year, they need to take it back, ASAP. The streaming service is releasing 28 films this year.
Here are some films that we have shortlisted for our watchlist!
The Adam Project
Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo will be seen in The Adam Project, a film based on a man (Reynolds) who goes back into time and brings his 12-year-old self on the right track. Helmed by Shawn Levy, the adventure film is filled with time warps, fighter jets, timeline anomalies and so much more. The rest of the cast include Jennifer Garner, Zoe Saldana and Catherine Keener. The film will be released on March 11.
The Gray Man
Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Bridgerton star Rege-Jean Page's The Gray Man is an exciting looking action film. Seeing the Duke of Hastings in a never-before-seen role has us excited but we're even more thrilled to see Evans debut his new moustache.
The thriller is about a skilled mercenary who wants to reveal dark secrets about the CIA and his psychopathic colleague who puts a bounty on his head. The film is about an international manhunt. It also stars Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Julia Butters and Indian actor Dhanush. The film will release in June.
The School for Good and Evil
A movie filled with CGI? Say no more, you have our attention. Netflix's preview unveiled Kerry Washington and Charlize Theron's The School for Good and Evil which gave us a Hogwarts vibe. The film is based on Soman Chainani's fantasy series based on best friends Sophie and Agatha as they navigate an enchanted school dedicated for young heroes and villains.
The cast includes Jamie Flatters, Sofia Wylie, Kit Young, Sophia Anne Caruso, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley and Matrix star Laurence Fishburne. The release date hasn't been revealed yet.
Enola Holmes 2
The Holmes siblings left us in awe after the first Enola Holmes where Enola searched for her mother Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter). Details about the sequel, Enola Holmes 2 hasn't been revealed by Netflix but it is most likely going to follow the storyline of Nancy Springer's book series The Case of the Left-Handed Lady. In the book, Enola is onto another case about a missing person.
The cast hasn't been revealed but the first part had Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Sam Claffin, Louis Partridge, Fiona Shaw, Burn Gorman, Frances de la Tour and Carter in the lead roles. Unfortunately there's no release date yet either.
Knives Out 2
Did someone say Daniel Craig? The Knives Out sequel was the surprise Netflix had been keeping from us in the three-minute long preview. The last film in its 28-movie sequence included a scene of the crew boarding a yacht and hinted that they are here for round two! Knives Out 2 is a mystery film based on a detective (Craig) who will take on another case.
He's joined by Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick, Janelle Monae and Edward Norton. While the release date hasn't been confirmed, Variety believes it will release in the last quarter of 2022.
