'One last deal to be done': Peaky Blinders' season 6 trailer is finally out

The BBC hit-show Peaky Blinders is all set to return to television for its sixth and final season and the first trailer for the new season has just been released by the BBC.

Created by Steven Knight, the show stars actor Cillian Murphy as the seasoned criminal Tommy Shelby, head of a gangster family of Irish-Romani origin based in Birmingham, England in 1919. The first season of the show aired in 2013.

The trailer shows the fearsome gang getting back together, as well as an extended appearance of The Queen's Gambit actor Anya Taylor Joy as Gina Gray, a character who made her first appearance in season five.

According to Variety, season six will show a continuation of the struggle Shelby has in his opposition to fascism. “What I wanted to do is that when Tommy Shelby came back from WWI, he was emotionally dead," Knight told the publication. He was switched off because of his experiences and he was a nihilist, amoral and would do anything, he said.

According to him, Shelby had one goal which was to accumulate money, but when he encounters fascism, something is brought back to life and he decides there is good and bad.

"And so that’s why he devotes his time to opposing it. And that continues in series six and many, many other things are gonna happen to Tommy that audiences will not be expecting. I think that the task of writing is more focused with each series. I’ve said this before, but I’ve always believed it’s true each time. And I believe it’s true this time: this is the best yet.”

After the sixth season of Peaky Blinders, a companion film is planned to go into production, according to the publication.

British actor Helen McCrory, who played a prominent role in last five seasons of Peaky Blinders passed away in 2021 due to cancer. She played the matriarch of the gangster family on the show.

Season six of the show is set to premiere in early 2022.
