'I'll miss you but you'll always be alive': Swineryy pays tribute to late comic icon Norm Macdonald

The anonymous Instagram account Swineryy paid tribute to comedian Norm Macdonald, a former Saturday Night Live writer and performer who died after a fight with cancer.

The comedian behind Swineryy, whose identity has yet to be revealed, posts short videos of animated comic characters and has amassed more than 200,000 followers on Instagram. Swineryy was recently featured in the music video for singer Meesha Shafi's latest single 'Hot Mango Chutney Sauce'.

In a recent post, Swineryy paid tribute to comic genius Macdonald. "I will most probably archive this post, but I have spent far too many many many many many hours of my life holed up in my room alone watching Norm to not acknowledge him with a simple post," she wrote on Instagram. "I have watched even when the quality is so bad and old everything is just a blur. Norm Macdonald has been my comfort blanket on bad days and on good days."

"Because Norm Macdonald is my absolute favourite comedian, the funniest person ever, and my biggest crush. There’s probably not a word uttered by him that’s online that I haven’t watched. Apart from his genius, hilarious, sweetly savage and unique comedy and style, I adored this man for the way his eyes lit up mischievously with delight when telling a joke, any joke. It's a feeling we [comedians] know. You saw till the very end how this man just loved not his career but what he actually did which was making people and himself laugh," the message read.

Swineryy's message urged followers to see Macdonald's content online. “I’mnotNorm is probably my most visited YouTube channel," she said. "Please watch all his stuff there. watch his interviews, funniest SNL clips, Weekend Update, still so funny. Read his story. Watch his stand-up. The roasts. Watch his stand-up even from last year! I've revisited Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee ONLY for Norm's episode. And he was the BEST guest on Conan.

"He was the best guest on any show," she added. "For anyone who watched and enjoyed Norm, and especially for comedians, Norm felt like home. Crying! I will miss you but you’ll always be alive!"

Macdonald passed away on Tuesday at the age of 61 after battling cancer for nine years without making it public knowledge, according to Brillstein Entertainment Partners, his management firm.

He was a stand-up comic and briefly a writer for the sitcom Roseanne when he was picked to join the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1993. He hosted the SNL sketch Weekend Update, often making O.J Simpson the butt of his jokes. Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels, speaking on behalf of the show, called MacDonald “one of the most impactful comedic voices of his or any other generation".
