Lionel Messi is leaving Barcelona and Twitter is full of suggestions on where he should go next
Argentinian striker Lionel Messi is leaving Barcelona FC after 17 seasons in the club and Twitter is a mess.
The news was announced early Friday, shocking football fans.
A statement issued by the club said that despite reaching an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, it was decided that Messi could not sign with the club again due to Spanish LaLiga regulations on player registration.
Messi joined the club's youth set-up at the age of 13 and has spent his entire career there.
No one is sure where he is going to go next, but one thing everyone seems to agree on is that Arsenal isn't an option.
Could he be looking at a change of career?
He has lots of job offers on the table and they're not all from football clubs.
Some Twitter users believe other teams are now facing buyer's regret.
The fans made their wishes known.
They already know that the fight to win his heart will be fierce.
Of course there are a lot of disappointed people today, including Sergio Aguero.
Most people wanted to hear the news from Messi himself.
But he hasn't made any statements yet. No matter where he goes, though, Messi remains the GOAT.
He has been Barcelona's all-time top scorer and appearance maker with 672 goals in 778 games. It doesn't really matter where he goes, his fans would follow him anywhere.
