Deepika Padukone tests positive for Covid-19

The latest celebrity to test positive for the novel coronavirus is Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone.

While there has been no formal or official announcement by the actor herself, the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) broke the unfortunate news via social media.

"Deepika Padukone has tested positive for Covid-19. Get well soon, Deepika!" it posted.

According to Khaleej Times, the Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani star is currently in Bangalore with her family. On Tuesday, her father, badminton icon Prakash Padukone, had to be admitted to hospital due to high fever while her mother, Ujjala Padukone, and younger sister, Anisha, have also tested positive for the virus.

Previously, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali also contracted the virus.

In the initial wave of the coronavirus, a lot of B-town actors had tested positive for the virus, including Arjun Kapoor, Malaika Arora and the Bachchan clan — of which Amitabh and Abhishek were hospitalised followed by Aishwariya and Aaradhya.

As Indian hospitals and cremation centres run out of space, the country is currently undergoing a crisis, taking its overall caseload to just shy of 20 million.
