The Friends Reunion special has completed shooting
The long-awaited Friends Reunion special is right around the corner, and after multiple delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, has finally finished shooting.
The episode features the entirety of the original cast — Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Mathew Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer. The internet has also been flooded with BTS sneak peaks from the set.
The Friends Reunion special will stream later this year on HBO Max. It was shot at the Warner Bros Studios, where the show ended in 2004.
In February 2020, HBO confirmed the special along with all 236 episodes will be released on the platform.
On Sunday, another announcement came, as a post went up on the show’s official Instagram page announcing, “That’s a wrap!”.
“Could we BE anymore excited!?” read the caption.
The show was originally planned to be filmed in March 2020 in front of a live audience.
Earlier, Schwimmer spoke about the special, revealing some key details. For starters, the stars will be appearing as themselves, and not in character.
Speaking on the The Graham Norton Show, he said, “There’s nothing scripted, we’re not in character. We are all ourselves, although there is once section of it that I don’t want to give away, but we all read something.”
The interview confirmed that we won't be seeing Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, Chandler Bing, Rachel Green, Phoebe Buffay or Ross Geller on the screen again. Schwimmer, however, confirmed the special's got a lot of surprises up its sleeve, not wanting to reveal much more.
Here are some shots from the set that went viral on the internet, throwing fans into a frenzy.
Look at that, look at that.
The infamous couch.
Oh man, we miss the apartment.
Friends is regarded as one of the most loved TV shows to ever air. The show ran for 10 seasons, from 1994 to 2004, and garnered a fan following across continents, languages — remember the Punjabi dubbed Friends? — and generations.
In 2020, 16 years after the show had officially ended, HBO Max called it the ‘No. 1 performing show' on the platform to date. During its life, Friends was nominated for 62 primetime Emmy Awards, and even won the Outstanding Comedy Series award in 2002. It has also won one award in 10 Golden Globes nominations.
