Amitabh Bachchan replaces Rishi Kapoor in Bollywood adaptation of The Intern

Hollywood comedy-drama The Intern's Bollywood remake just casted Amitabh Bachchan in its main role alongside Deepika Padukone.

He will play a 70-year-old man who realises that he's not cut out for retirement and then becomes an intern for a sceptical boss at a fashion site.

The Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani star celebrated the exciting news on social media, welcoming Big B to the team.

"What an absolute honour to be collaborating with one of my most special co-star again!" she posted.

The duo had previously worked together in Shoojit Sircar's Piku, which garnered them a lot of praise. It was released in the same year as the original movie The Intern, which was directed by Nancy Meyers and starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro.

Bachchan's role was previously going to be played by late actor Rishi Kapoor, who had made the announcement on January 27, 2020.

"Moving on to yet another journey with the Indian adaptation of #TheIntern with Deepika Padukone," he had posted.

Helmed by filmmaker Amit Sharma, popular for his film Badhaai Ho, the movie is being co-produced by Padukone in association with Warner Bros India. The poster suggests that its expected date of release would be summer 2022.

The Hollywood film made almost $200 million worldwide and we're waiting to see if the Bollywood remake can live up to its success.
