Ali Sethi adds colour to our lives with his new song Rung
Ali Sethi always manages to make us feel a certain type of way with his music and so it was no surprise that when he released his new song Rung, we were instantly addicted.
Sethi and the late Shakeel Sohail have composed the song, while the music composition is all Sethi. Director Umar Riaz has created a music video for Rung that is both diverse and simple. It doesn't have flashy scenes or choreographed dances, but its simplicity resonates. The song is about love adding colour to our lives and being a source of peace.
Shot in Lahore and New York, the opening scene features Sethi in Times Square, a young woman, an elderly couple, two transgender women, a pair of young men and two young women in Lahore. Each character seems to have a story that resonates in the lyrics. For example, we see the elderly man admiring vinyl records, probably reminiscing about the past, when Sethi sings, “Tum aye tou yeh rung hai, tumsey hi hai qarar [You bring colour to my world, you put my soul at peace]".
Sethi has stayed true to traditional musical roots and the music for Rung is a combination of a surmandal. harmonium and tabla.
So far, people love the song.
Sethi has songs such as Chan Kithan, Chandni Raat and Khabar-e-Tahayyur-e Ishq under his belt. His live sessions on Instagram last year with Farida Khanum and Rekha Bhardwaj also gained a lot of traction for cross border collaboration.
It’s safe to say Rung will be on repeat until Sethi decides to give us more!
