Bridgerton is Netflix's 'biggest series ever'

“Flawless my dear,” says Queen Charlotte famously in Bridgerton to the beautiful debutante — and that's the quote we'll use for the show, now that it has been crowned Netflix's "biggest series ever".

A statement by VP Original Series Jinny Howe said that 82 million households around the world tuned into the show in its first 28 days online, surpassing the firm's own projections.

The show has made the top 10 in every country except Japan — hitting number one in 83 countries including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India and South Africa.

Howe credited the show's success to "being bold and take creative risks” and the element of diversity.

"Bridgerton took a seed of truth about Queen Charlotte’s background to reimagine her as a Black monarch using her power to affect broader change in British society," the statement said. "The empowerment of people of colour and women made Bridgerton feel accessible and contemporary, resonating with audiences all around the world."

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton — the belle of the ball in season 1 — reacted to the news with glee, calling it "utterly insane".

"I’m SO proud of the incredible team behind this show! And thank you guys for loving it," she posted on Instagram.

Meanwhile, her love interest Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, known in real-life as Regé-Jean Page, also celebrated the news.

Netflix has confirmed that the hit show set in 1800s London is returning for season 2.

It seems the adaptation will follow the chronology of Julia Quinn’s Regency-era eight-novel series and for season 2 of the shondaland production, The Viscount Who Loved Me will serve as the inspiration.
