Twitter celebrates as Lahore High Court declares archaic two-finger test illegal

An invasive procedure considered discriminatory and against human dignity, the two-finger test in Pakistan was a virginity test carried out on rape victims and sexual assault survivors in the region — a longstanding practice used to assess a woman’s so-called honor.

Recently, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday declared the virginity test and examination "illegal and against the Constitution", saying they had "no forensic value" in cases of sexual violence.

In a 30-page judgement, Justice Ayesha A. Malik wrote that the virginity test "offends the dignity of the female victim."

Subsequently, the judgement declared them "discriminatory against the female victim as they are carried out on the basis of their gender [and] therefore offend Article 25 of the Constitution".
