PTI's Faisal Javed Khan defends Ertugrul's Engin Altan after Fahad Mustafa's remarks

While Fahad Mustafa is usually known for his substantial roles, the actor turned producer has recently been coming under fire for backing some very questionable projects.

Addressing his serials, drawing comparisons with media across the border and around the world, as well as acknowledging his own role in the industry, the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani actor revealed all that he felt about the nation's criticism in his recent interview.

"In the end, we're not Turkish, we're not Indian, we are Pakistanis. Ertugrul [Engin Altan] also came, sat with the lion, took money and left, didn't he? That's all you guys were for him. For you, there is Humayun Saeed. It's us. Admit it or not, we were here and we will be here in the future," the Actor In Law star said.

However, his comments didn't sit well with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senator Faisal Javed Khan, who reminded the actor how Ertugrul's fame should be a learning opportunity, instead of a threat.

"Engin Altan is one of the finest actors we have seen on TV and Dirilis Ertugrul brought him a huge fame across the world. A lot to be learnt from such a great production and director's meticulous attention to detail. It is not a threat, it's an opportunity," he stated.

Ironically, the interview also had Fahad openly admitting that he entered the industry with the sole purpose of making money.

"Actors want to do my dramas, people want to watch my dramas and producers and channels want to make my dramas. So what am I doing wrong here? I'm doing nothing wrong here."

"I make my shows for the awaam, for those who stand in the jalsas. That's my audience," the Jeeto-Pakistan host said, adding how no one batted an eye when Ishq-e-Mamnu was popular on television.

"Streets would be empty when it was on air. What was that? A nephew and aunt having an affair. So when I make it, it'll be called Jalan only, what else should I do? Add the word Shakespeare behind it?Those who are watching Game of Thrones, watching incest, enjoying it even, are criticising our work, saying why we don't make such content. What should we do, make it then?" he questioned.

Speaking about his responsibility as a producer, he admitted that not all films and dramas can come with a message. "I was here to become an actor in the first place. I wanted to look like a hero. I'm not interested in giving you a message and there's nothing wrong with it."

Ever since PTV started airing Dirilis Ertugrul in Urdu dub, it has been the subject of many debates.

While Turkish dramas have been rather popular here for years, one can't deny the enormous impact this specific show has made. We can't help but agree with the senator on this one; one should take this as inspiration and an opportunity to grow instead of putting down those who are doing good work that the audiences are clearly loving.
