Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars' fans have made it to Family Guy
Pakistan Super League is truly making its mark...in mainstream popular culture.
American animated sitcom, Family Guy's season 19 premiere featured a cheeky little skit referencing Pakistani cricket fans; the episode starts with Peter Griffin, who is the main character, and his squad sitting at a neighbourhood bar, lamenting the fact that it's been taken over by international sports fans.
In the scene, Griffin's friend, Glenn Quagmire, remarks, "It sucks on Saturday mornings, it's just weird foreign sports fans, like those Pakistani cricket hooligans."
He specifically singles out two Lahore Qalandar supporters sporting a green shirt that just says 'Lahore' and holding what seem to be soda cans. One of them says in a thick Indianized accent, "If you're not rooting for Lahore, please you may leave I can tell you."
While the other one chimes in with a, "Lahore cricketers are the best and the others are not the best, dear friends."
Whereas Joe Swanson, another important character on the shows, who's wearing a Karachi Kings tee quickly covers it up, stating, "I am rooting for Karachi but I don't have a death wish about it."
Goes without saying, some were very excited about the mention
PSL going global!
But what's up with the accents?
Though, points to the show for at least trying to get it right
But we promise Pakistani fashion is now (thankfully) decades away from the 80s
Yet, some things never change — like the perennial LHE-KHI debate
No one bothered correcting them either...
Perhaps it really is a step up
