Kinnaird College calls off talk featuring Khalil Ur Rehman after backlash from students

Kinnaird College for Women reportedly called off an interactive session they had organised yesterday featuring writer/director Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar.

News started doing the rounds on social media that the talk had been cancelled, allegedly after students pointed out to management that an all-girls university should not be hosting an individual who openly insults women.

The event, which was scheduled from 11 am to noon, was arranged by the institute's Centre for Learning and Cultural Development and also included director Agha Jarrar.

A faculty member who did not wish to be named confirmed the same to Images, sharing that it was scrapped after backlash from students.

"Kinnaird has been working on women empowerment for a 100 years, we can't let someone with such views conduct sessions," said the faculty member.

Qamar recently landed in hot waters for his play, Meray Pass Tum Ho and its content when a woman filed a petition against the drama in a Lahore civil court yesterday, saying the drama was demeaning women and showed them as inferior beings in society. The Kaaf Kangana director has also sparked outrage for his problematic sexist opinions (which he likes to pass off as facts) expressed in recent interviews.

Images has also reached out to Kinnaird for an official statement on the matter and awaits a response.
