BTS wins big at the Mnet Asian Music Awards 2019
Every K-pop fan was hooked to the screens yesterday ad the Mnet Asian Music Awards 2019 kicked off.
It was a single day event that took place on December 4 at the Nagoya Dome in Japan, unlike last year where it was dubbed the MAMA week. Perhaps that's why fans might sense a lack of splendour but none the less the award ceremony was decently wrapped up.
The Mnet Asian Music Awards are considered the biggest award shows in Asia, highlighting all the achievements and quality in Asian music, especially K-pop, which has made it's name around the globe.
Fans may have missed the presence of SM Entertainment & YG Entertainment artists but the event was still full of amazing performances. Rookie groups such as ITZY, Ateez, Oneus & TXT had their stages along with the veterans of the industry like, BTS, Twice, Monsta X, Got7, & Mamamoo to name a few.
Singer Dua Lipa, who took home the award for International Favorite Artist also performed with Hwasa of Mamamoo.
BTS took home awards for all the categories they were nominated in which included, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year. One of their awards was also announced by Jimmy Fallon, justifying their award for Worldwide Icon of the Year.
Ateez and UNINE gave us a performance on the red carpet event which thankfully really put us all in the MAMA spirit. Here are the most notable moments.
While the night was eventful, it is rather strange that none of the K-pop celebrities that have passed away in the last two months were mentioned at the ceremony. While there was no tribute, there was also no conversation on cyber bullying or mental health, which seems extremely crucial at this point, especially when Kang Daniel opted out of performing due to the very same issues. However there may be a possibility that this be addressed next year.
