Sonam Kapoor expresses her views on the ongoing unrest in Kashmir
It seems like Bollywood really doesn't know what to say when it comes to talking about the ongoing tension in Kashmir.
Sonam Kapoor is the latest B-town celeb to share her views on the issue. After Priyanka Chopra faced backlash for her stance on the unrest in Indian-occupied Kashmir, the Veere Di Wedding decided not to say much about it during an interview with BBC Asian Network.
Kapoor stated, “It’s heartbreaking to see where the situation has landed right now and I’m very patriotic. So I think for me now it’s better to keep quiet and let this pass because even this too shall pass.”
The actor admitted that she is not aware of the entire situation and added, “I think it’s very complicated and I don’t understand it as much because there is so much contrasting and contrary news everywhere, so I really don’t know what the truth is.”
Sharing that she would rather comment on the matter once she has a better understanding of the entire situation, Sonam also said, "I hope there is a peaceful way of working things out. I don’t know how that’s possible but I think there should be because it’s a beautiful place that I think has been under so much duress.”
The actor talked about her links to Pakistan and revealed, “I am half Sindhi and half Peshawari. It’s heartbreaking to see part of my culture is something that I can’t explore as well because of that. My name is Sonam. I was named after my parents went to Kashmir shooting for Ram Lakhan and they decided to name me from there. I still haven’t been there since because of the unrest.”
We really hope that artists like Sonam try to educate themselves about such significant issues and current affairs and keep their privilege in check. Yes, Priyanka, we're hinting at you.
