Akshay Kumar's Rowdy Rathore is getting a sequel

Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer action thriller Rowdy Rathore is gearing up for a sequel.

According to latest reports, Shabinaa Khan, who co-produced the first film with Sanjay Leela Bhansal, confirmed the news. “We are in the process of writing Rowdy Rathore 2 right now and InshaAllah, it will feature Akshay in the lead,” she said.

The film which hit screens seven years ago, was Sonkashi's second Bollywood film and though it received mixed reviews, it was a a hit in cinemas and eventually went on to become a blockbuster.

Praising Akshay's body of work in the film industry, Khan added, "Right from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha to Padman, his films have ample of humour. He can manage anything and everything and is one of the only all rounders we have in the industry today."

Though Khan didn't reveal any more details, sources close to the project have disclosed that the production will go on floors sometime in the coming year.
