Okay so Maryam Nawaz is being trolled for sitting while female

On Sunday night PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari hosted an iftar-dinner at Zardari House in Islamabad which was attended by all opposition parties. The aim of the meeting was to "discuss Pakistan's issues and find solutions to the people's problems," according to Bilawal Bhutto.

"Today we invited all the opposition leaders to this iftar-dinner and I am thankful that they came," Bilawal said at the press conference that took place afterwards.

The iftar brought together PML-N leaders Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz, Jamaat-i-Islami's Liaqat Baloch, Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, and Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) MNAs Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir, among others.

However, following the conference, much of the commentary online revolved around... Maryam Nawaz's supposed proximity to Bilawal Bhutto.

Some people used images of Maryam Nawaz seated next to Bilawal Bhutto to make suggestive comments. Some even went so far as to liken their interaction to a newly wedded couple. Yep.

Maryam Nawaz is a prominent political personality in her own right, yet commentators seem intent to reduce her to Bilawal Bhutto's 'love interest.'

Women leaders deserve to be respected in their own right, not romantically linked to every male they happen to interact with in a public setting. Oh, and Maryam Nawaz is married, of course. But that didn't stop these folks...

While we're at it can we stop age-shaming and body-shaming women leaders?

Thankfully, some people called out this sexist 'humour'... but it's probably too little, too late.

Let the woman sit in peace!
