Aquaman beats Dark Knight to become the highest grossing DC movie of all time

James Wan directorial, Aquaman has broken yet another box office record and this one may be it’s most significant.

The Jason Mamoa starrer has become the highest grossing DC flick of all time, beating Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.

The underwater adventure film has grossed over $1.085 billion worldwide, putting it past the unadjusted global totals ($1.084b in 2012, sans 3-D) of The Dark Knight Rises; Aquaman is not just the biggest DC Films flick in worldwide box office (having passed Batman v Superman's $873 million cume), it's the biggest DC Comics movie ever. With $1.09b thus far, it is the 25th-biggest grosser of all time.

Forbes reports that Wan has now directed the biggest-grossing installments in two different mega-franchises which he did not necessarily "start."

He directed Insidious, Saw and The Conjuring (which have all been outgrossed worldwide by later installments) as well as the the biggest Fast and Furious movie (Furious 7, with $1.5 billion in 2015) and the biggest DC Films/DC Comics movie as well.
