Anupam Kher is being sued for his portrayal of former Indian PM Manmohan Singh in new film

Controversy doesn't leave Anupam Kher's side, it seems.

His upcoming film The Accidental Prime Minister sees him in the role of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the film appears to have ruffled some feathers.

Anupam Kher is reportedly being sued for 'damaging the image' of the former PM, while his co-star Akshaye Khanna is accused of doing the same for PM Singh's press advisor Sanjaya Baru.

The case has been filed by lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha in a Bihar court, which has accepted the case and will hold a hearing on January 8.

In his petition, Ojha said their portrayal "hurt me and many others."

In his complaint, Mr Ojha said others who have played the role of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra also damaged their image. He has also complained against the film director and producer.

Earlier this week, Kher was also upset by the film's trailer allegedly going missing on YouTube.

However, the issue hasn't persisted.

The Accidental Prime Minister is scheduled to release on January 11.
