Punjab Nahi Jaungi bags Jury Special Award at the SOC Film Festival in China
Romantic dramedy Punjab Nahi Jaungi won the Jury Special Award at the closing ceremony of the first Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival in Qingdao, China.
The five-day film festival was attended by the lead actors of PNJ Humayun Saeed and Mehwaish Hayat, who also accepted the award during the closing ceremony on Sunday.
Hayat shared the happy news on Instagram.
"I am proud to share that our film, Punjab Nahi Jaungi has picked up the special jury award against competition from films from 12 other nations... This is a major honour for our fledgling industry and one that shows that we can compete with the best in the world. Many congratulations to the whole PNJ team on this much deserved accolade! We are bringing it home,” said Mehwish in her post.
The SOC Film Festival had five Pakistani movies screened at the event; Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Parchi, Bin Roye and Chalay Thay Saath. The festival ran from June 13 to June 17.
The closing ceremony of the festival, which had Jackie Chan on board as the promotional ambassador, was attended by China's top actors and directors.
Does this mean we'll see Mehwish and Humayun take part in a potential film collaboration with China? We hope so!
