Archie Comics is being made into a Bollywood film
Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead — characters from childhood fave Archie Comics — are coming to a screen near you... Bollywood style!
That's right — after the TV adaptation Riverdale ran for two seasons, Archie Comics is now getting a film, one that will "reimagine the classic characters like Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Moose and Jughead with an Indian cast and will feature all the elements of the comic book series," Variety reports.
The film is a joint project by Archie Comics and Graphic India and is being touted as the first international comic to be translated for Indian screens.
How is this adaptation from Riverdale to India exactly taking place?
Sharad Devarajan, co-founder and CEO of Graphic India, said it'll involve a plot twist: “Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead have been a source of inspiration for numerous Bollywood films over the years, and now it’s time to take them fully into Bollywood in an exciting new twist of a story that we have planned."
The project is currently in its nascent stages and an official release date is yet to be announced.
Archie Comics have sold over 2 billion copies worldwide and are published in over 17 languages in over 55 countries.
