Indian censor board clears Padmavat and no, that is not a typo

Padmavati has had a tough year but things are looking up.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial has been in a long battle against the censor boards and Rajput groups (a really tough year guys), who hold that the film misrepresents the life of Rani Padmini.

ANI reports now that Padmavati will be given the certificate of clearance if a few modifications are made. One of the key changes involve the renaming of the film from Padmavati to Padmavat.

Other key modifications suggested include disclaimers, particularly one regarding not glorifying the practice of sati and changes to the song 'Ghoomar' to befit the character portrayed.

An examining committee meeting took place on December 28. A special panel was convened for the purpose, which included historians after the makers of the film stated that it was partially based on historical facts.

"Special panel consisted of Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr Chandramani Singh and Professor KK Singh of Jaipur University. Panel member had insights and also some reservations regarding claimed historical events and socio-cultural aspects which were duly discussed at length," the board official added.

Padmavat is based on a poem of the same name by 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi and stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the leads.

A revised release date is yet to be announced.
