Salman Khan's next project Bharat announced for Eid 2019
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is known for releasing movies on Eid as the actor considers it an auspicious occasion, announcing his upcoming project Bharat to come out on Eid in 2019, Indian media reported.
Bharat is being helmed by filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar and producer Atul Agnihotri with whom Salman delivered the hits like Sultan (2016) and Bodyguard (2011) respectively.
The film is an adaptation of 2014 Korean drama Ode to My Father, which depicted modern Korean history from the 1950s to the present day through the life of an ordinary man caught in major political movements and upheavals such as the Korean War in the 50s and the Vietnam War in the 60s.
"It's a journey of a country and also a person, both of whom go by the name of Bharat," Agnihotri said.
He further told media that since Bharat is inspired from the Korean movie, the executives wanted "in all fairness to officially own [the idea] and acquired the remake rights" before they went ahead with the project.
About Khan who will be playing the protagonist, Bharat producer said, "It’s a character that I thought would resonate with him. I'm very conscious of Salman's fan base and what they want."
"And once again, I'm convinced that being a family film it's worthy of coming during the festive time. And anyway, an Eid release is always every producer's preferred choice," he added.
And who else can we expect to see in Bharat?
Agnihotri shared casting is in process and it isn't be based on "big names" but on what the character demands.
"Casting will be our main agenda over the next three months and since it's a character-driven story, we will take actors who fit the part. It won’t be about getting names together but will be honest in its depiction," the producer added.
But before Bharat is released, Salman will return to screen in December with Katrina Kaif in Tiger Zinda Hai, also helmed by filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar.
