Naqvi's film Among The Believers has been nominated in category Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary. The documentary, which has been banned in Pakistan, won two awards at Doc Edge, an international documentary film festival in New Zealand.

Documentary The Secret Life of Muslims, produced by and featuring Iranian-American author Reza Aslan, has been nominated in category Outstanding Short Documentary and will be competing against Sharmeen's A Girl In The River for the award.

Sharmeen Obaid previously won an Emmy for her documentary Children of Taliban and two Emmys for Saving Face. She has also bagged Oscars for Saving Face and A Girl in the River.
