This TV show will introduce a Muslim American Superhero and it's awkward

DC's Legends of Tomorrow has a new addition and we don't know how we feel about it.

According to Variety, actor Tala Ashe has joined the cast of the TV show for its third season. The Iranian American actor will be playing the role of Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a Muslim-American woman from the year 2030.

While we love the diversity that DC has been working on, with a plethora of strong female characters and numerous people of colour, this change has us uncomfortable. Let us explain.

In the comic book world, Adrianna Tomaz is a high school teacher who stumbles upon an amulet that grants her superpowers. From the world of Black Adam (A popular supervillain in the DC realm) and Wonder Woman, Tomaz superhero identity is the Egyptian goddess Isis. you heard us correctly... Isis.

In this day and age, a Muslim superhero by the name of Isis has us very concerned and we are surprised at DC's decision to go ahead with this. You'd think DC would've learned from their previous mistakes. Oh well.

Last year, DC was called out for its ignorant move when it showed speech dialogues with a note saying they are “all translated from Pakistanian” – a language as non-existent as Superman’s native Kryptonian.

DC, you would've done well to include an actual Muslim superhero, of which you have many in your roaster. Simon Baz (Green Lantern), Bilal Aisselah (Nightrunner) or even Kismet would have been appreciated!
