Aamir Zaki's family responds to Waqar Zaka's claims of their neglect

On the eve of guitar legend Aamir Zaki's unexpected demise, social media celebrity Waqar Zaka released a video alleging that his body had been abandoned at the Edhi Centre in Karachi's Sohrab Goth area. In the video, Waqar called out Aamir Zaki's family for their "lack of shame" and criticised celebrities and the media for not giving due respect to the acclaimed musician.

In response to his video, Aamir Zaki's nephew Daniyal Sohail went live on Facebook to address this "fake news".

He first shed some light on the facts of his uncle's death. He shared that his housemate Mumtaz said that Aamir Zaki was feeling unwell at 3am on the day of his demise. After being given some medication, he went to bed. When Mumtaz tried to wake him in the afternoon, he did not respond. Mumtaz informed the family and his elder brother Shahid Zaki and his son Zahid Zaki arrived to transfer his body to the Edhi Centre.

Daniyal made clear that Aamir Zaki's body was brought to the Edhi Centre by his nephew Zahid, where his body was admitted to the cold storage to preserve before the funeral.

Talking further about the press and celebrities' presence at his funeral, Daniyal said that his funeral took place at Fajr time the next day, i.e. June 4. It was attended by celebrities, none of whom publicised their presence on social media. He asked Waqar Zaka why he did not come to pay his respects.

"All people knew was that our home was near Zahid Nihari at Tariq Road. But they found the way to our house. We didn't stop anyone from saying his funeral prayers with us. We only barred camerapersons from recording the funeral rites," he shared.

"We were very saddened and disturbed by Waqar Zaka's actions. We had to face various difficulties, got unpleasant calls and were asked all sorts of questions because of him."
