Adnan Malik returns to TV as an aspiring photographer in 'Gypsy'

After a nearly two year hiatus since his TV debut in Sadqay Tumhare, director-turned-actor Adnan Malik is ready to make his television comeback with Gypsy, alongside Mira Sethi and possibly, Mawra Hocane, whose casting is still in the process of being finalized.

Talking to Images, the budding actor shares why the breather he took from television was much-needed and how his character is different from that of Khalil.

"Sadqay Tumhare was such a learning curve for me and in its entirety, the whole process definitely took a toll on me; I had gotten emotionally involved with my character so I decided it would be best to take some time off, return to directing. As time passed, it became evident to me how much acting had fine-tuned my directing skills as well and I just knew it was time to go back to school."

"I read a bunch of scripts, there was also interest from across the border but nothing clicked quite like Gypsy."

He adds, "I play the role of Sikander, who's an aspiring photographer, a part of him that resonates with me because that's what peaked my interest in the arts, when my father bought me my first camera. He's a very rugged, outdoorsy kinda guy, very different from Khalil. There's just this lightness to him. So the show revolves around this guy who's a bit of a wanderer and his equation with two ladies, a non-traditional love triangle of sorts."

The romantic drama has been written by Faiza Iftikhar, produced by Momina Duraid Productions and directed by Siraj-Ul-Haq.

We couldn't help but ask: While Adnan is on his way to the top in television, will we be seeing him conquering the big screen any time soon?

"I'm focusing on television right now; I think it's such a valuable, powerful medium when it comes to establishing a connection with your viewers because everyone has a television in their house, you know? However, not everyone can go to the cinema. That being said, I love the scale of cinema and would love for my next acting project to be a film!"

Gypsy will go on air by the last quarter of 2016.
