Legendary David Bowie dies at 69

After fighting an 18-month-long battle with cancer legendary singer-songwriter David Bowie passed away at his home today. His death was confirmed on his official Facebook account.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief," the statement read.

His son, Duncan Jones also confirmed the news on his Twitter account:

The 69-year-old singer who was also a producer just celebrated his 69th birthday last week and had released another album Blackstar on the occasion. He had returned to the music scene after a gap of 10 years.

He rose to fame with 1972's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. Following that, three years later he gained popularity in America with his single 'Fame' after which came his avant-garde album LP Station to Station.

Some of his memorable songs include 'Space Oddity', 'Heroes', 'Rebel Rebel', 'Suffragagette City', 'Life on Mars', 'Fashion', 'Under Pressure' among many others.
