Jami's Moor out of the Oscar race

Jami Mahmood's drama film Moor did not make it to the shortlist of the Academy Awards' Best Foreign-Language Film category.

According to Variety, the Academy has advanced the following nine films in that category:

Belgium, “The Brand New Testament,” Jaco Van Dormael, director;

Colombia, “Embrace of the Serpent,” Ciro Guerra, director;

Denmark, “A War,” Tobias Lindholm, director;

Finland, “The Fencer,” Klaus Härö, director;

France, “Mustang,” Deniz Gamze Ergüven, director;

Germany, “Labyrinth of Lies,” Giulio Ricciarelli, director;

Hungary, “Son of Saul,” László Nemes, director;

Ireland, “Viva,” Paddy Breathnach, director;

Jordan, “Theeb,” Naji Abu Nowar, director.

However, Pakistan's luck has not totally run out in the Oscars race. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's documentary A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness has been shortlisted with nine other films in the category of Best Documentary - Short Subject, it was announced in October. The documentary is based on the subject of honour-killing and is a joint production of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (SOC) Films and Home Box Office (HBO).

The final five nominees in Best Documentarty Short category will be announced on January 14 with the rest of the nominations of the 88th Academy Awards.
