Weekend Grub: Lahore's Ministry of Burgers promises buns with a difference

Forget soup. If there's one thing we'd put near the top of list of comfort foods, it's burgers.

What's better to drown a week's worth of drudgery than a big bite out of a beef patty slathered in sauces, sandwiched in freshly toasted buns?

If you're in Lahore, then power up your weekend at the Ministry of Burgers.

Where to go

The Ministry of Burgers is a cozy little burger joint with five tables and a burger-only menu that stays constant across lunch and dinner time.

It is located opposite the airport at Ex Park View, Phase VIII, DHA. Getting to the place can be rather tricky because it is neatly tucked away in the service lane without any specific signs to guide you.

The Ministry of Burgers opens from 12:30pm till 11pm.

What to order

The Ministry of Burgers has options for both beef and chicken lovers. What stands out about this place is that they make their own buns, which is not something many burger joints in Pakistan can boast about.

If you prefer chicken and like it spicy, we recommend ordering ‘The Big Mommy’. The burger is simple yet delicious for its melt-in-your-mouth quality. And we must make mention of the soft bun and juicy chicken fillet, which is well complemented by crunchy lettuce and spicy jalapeños.

However, if you like beef – the way a burger is supposed to be – order ‘The Yolo’. It is complete with caramelised onions, cheddar cheese, lettuce, jalapeños and sauce over a thick juicy beef patty.

For people who prefer a pared down stack on their beef burger, the ‘What a Burger’ is a definitely good idea. It consists of cheddar cheese, onions, tomato, lettuce, dill and sauce.

The Ministry of Burgers' fries also deserve a special mention.

The seven option of fries include masala, cajun, bbq, garlic mayo, hot sauce, ketchup and plain. Their masala fries are super spicy and not for the faint of heart. The BBQ fries are beautifully smokey and saucy. While garlic mayo and cajun fries are recommended for people who like it mild.

MoB also has a selection of other sides, including garlic bread, garlic cheese bread, pepperoni melt, MoB grilled bites, chicken rolls, and chicken strips. Although we recommend sticking to burgers and fries.

The chefs at Ministry of Burgers also take into account your dietary restrictions, so you can give them specific directions on how to cook your burger!

Presentation wise, you can expect the burger and fries on a plastic serving container lending it a rustic feel with limited attention to presentation detail. One thing that put us off completely was the lack of water on their menu. Yes, you heard it right. When ordered, the waitress informed us that water was not available. We are not sure if this is a regular miss on their menu or whether it was occasional. Either way, MoB really needs to address this issue!

Damage on the pocket?

For a burger meal (consisting of a burger, a side of fries and drink), you can expect to cough up approximately Rs700-900 per head including tax, which is quite reasonable considering Ministry of Burgers' quality. Happy chomping!
