These 5 Indian actresses crossed over to Hollywood — who's next?

Ever since Deepika Padukone posted a picture with Hollywood action hero Vin Diesel, the media has been abuzz with interest about her rumoured Hollywood debut.

Deepika, whose recently released Tamasha received a lukewarm response, had reportedly declined an offer to work in Fast and Furious 7 earlier... but as they say, good things come to those who wait.

Deepika's just the latest in a pretty sizable line of leading ladies to make the leap from Indian cinema to Hollywood recently.

Here's a look at who else made the jump:

1) Priyanka Chopra:

Priyanka in 'Quantico'

Known to be a close friend of Deepika, Priyanka made waves this year as she landed a starring role in American TV drama Quantico, in which she plays agent-in-training Alex Parrish. Set to appear in Bajirao Mastani with Deepika this month, Priyanka also got nominated for a People's Choice Award in the Favorite Actress in a New TV Series category .

2) Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan:

Aishwarya in 'Pink Panther 2'

Aishwarya recently returned to acting after a brief hiatus following the birth of her child, but her big break in Hollywood came in 2007 when she appeared in The Last Legion with actors like Ben Kingsley and Colin Firth. Although the film didn't do well, she was soon seen again in the Steve Martin-starrer, The Pink Panther 2 as a villain. Neither film, however garnered her much acclaim in Hollywood circles.

3) Tabu:

Tabu in 'Life of Pi'

Recipient of many Filmfare awards, Tabu, who was last seen in Haider, got her chance to work in Hollywood twice. Both of the films she worked were based on novels of the same name, Namesake and Life of Pi. Interestingly enough, she played the role of a mother in both and worked alongside Irrfan Khan.

4) Malaika Sherwat:

Malaika Sherwat in 'Politics of Love'

This may come as a surprise to many — but Malaika Sherwat also had her Hollywood moment in 2010 when she appeared in a popular film Hisss directed by Jennifer Chambers Lynch. One year later she was seen in the relatively unknown film Politics of Love about a love affair between a Republican and a Democrat.

5) Shabana Azmi:

Shabana Azmi in 'City of Joy'

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi ventured into Hollywood decades ago in 1988 with John Schlesinger’s Madame Sousatzka in which she played the lead role of an immigrant. She also became a part of Roland Joffe's City of Joy released in 1992 where she played the role of Om Puri's wife.

And who else would we like to see in Hollywood?

1) Anushka Sharma:

Anushka Sharma in 'NH10'

Outspoken Anushka Sharma can definitely make the move to Hollywood because she's hasn't shied away from strong roles, like her turn in NH10. We could see her cast as a no-nonsense reporter or even a confident femme fatale.

2) Kangana Ranaut:

Kangana Ranaut as Rani in Queen

Queen, enough said.

3) Kareena Kapoor:

Kareena Kapoor in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.

Kareena's been in the B-town sidelines of late, and we've had enough of that!

We all remember her powerful performance in Chambeli, so we know there's more to her than item numbers ('Mera Naam Hai Mary' in Brothers) and being the hero's doe-eyed love interest (Bajrangi Bhaijaan). If the spark's missing in Bollywood, we'd like her to give Hollywood, or American TV for that matter, a try.

4) Sridevi:

Sridevi in 'English Vinglish'

Sridevi made a stellar comeback in English Vinglish, and that role fit her like a glove. Sridevi would be ideally cast in a film exploring culture shock or the generation gap between immigrants and their children. After all, we've seen enough of Tabu in those roles.

5) Alia Bhatt:

Alia Bhatt in 'Highway'

Alia Bhatt has proven with time that she can pull off the quirky girl as well as a solemn character in Two States and Highway respectively. Younger than the rest, Alia will be just fine even if she starts small and bags bigger roles later. Ha, we can even picture her in a college romance film, but we know she has exhibited more mettle than that!
