The movers and shakers of the Indian fashion industry all flocked to Delhi to showcase their Spring/Summer collection at the Amazon India Fashion Week that ended Sunday night.
As expected, there were big names like Anamika Khanna, Gauri and Nainika, Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, who set the runway on fire and some budding designers, who caught the attention of the fashionistas that matter.
We tried to pick just 10 looks but were spoilt for choice. Here are 8 elements from the AIFW that had us drooling:
Spotted: lots of subtle sequins for some understated glam and cut-outs
The cherry on the cake was the hottest new 'it girl' of fashion, Athiya Shetty, who walked the runway as a showstopper for the talented duo.
One of our fave bloggers from across the border, Kayaan Contractor, the co-creator of the blog, Love and Other Bugs, is all party-meets-business in this two-piece suit with a funky tee. Now that's some serious street style!
A great collection overall that screamed flower power, for us, the underdog stood out the most from the loud pieces. This maxi dress by Payal Pratap looks quite simple but comfortably avoids the 'boring' category. We love the romantic floral cross-stitching! It's minimal enough to be worn on its own or paired with funky accessories; perfect outfit for a brunch.
She wasn't the only designer playing with ivory hues — her namesake, Payal Jain had a similar vision, which was the ultimate island wardrobe.
No one dresses up like this at the slumber parties we go to.
This was the sleepover of the season, happening right on the ramp.
Casual staples, coupled with a super cute concept had us falling in love.
We loved these peek-a-boo bottoms from Kapur's collection: give it up for the rebels who dare to do something different.
Sneakers, sneakers, everywhere! Palazzos and lean silhouettes thrown together with chunky sneakers gave the pieces a sporty-luxe gloss — you could imagine yourself wearing the outfits as lounge wear or to a party. An unexpected, versatile collection and another homerun by Ms. Khanna.
Sneakers > stilettos.
One of the best things about Ikai by Ragini Ahuja was how perfectly balanced it was as a collection; rarely do pieces transition from ramp to reality with ease.
Giving denim a makeover is not easy but Ahuja does it by playing it up with different textures and various appliques, marrying high-fashion and practicality.
