Moammar Rana's wife Mahnaz granted khula by Lahore Family Court
Mahnaz Moammar Rana has had her marriage to veteran actor and filmmaker Moammar Rana nullified by obtaining a khula.
A decree from Judge Zahid Bashir of the Family Court in Lahore dated October 29 ruled in favour of the dissolution as requested by Mahnaz.
She filed for khula on June 22, claiming that she and her daughters had suffered “extreme mental torment” for two decades and that she was “singlehandedly incurring all household expenses” due to the lack of financial support from her husband.
The suit said Mahnaz and her family members had made “numerous attempts to seek reform in [Moammar’s] behaviour”, but the actor “refused to seek treatment for his addiction or cease his violent outbursts”.
Mahnaz’s plea for khula cited Moammar’s physical and mental abuse of his wife and daughters as grounds for the dissolution. One of their daughters was listed as a witness by Mahnaz.
Earlier, both parties had been called for mediation in an attempt to resolve the matter through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). A letter from the ADR Centre III in Lahore said Moammar appeared for mediation, whereas Mahnaz refused, leading to the matter being sent back to the court.
