If you could sit across from Andrew Garfield for a date, would you? How about Billie Eilish, or Idris Elba, or Elmo? For 12 years, Amelia Dimoldenberg did just that on her YouTube show Chicken Shop Date but now she says she’s ready to “move on”.

The internet celebrity who made her career out of her awkward, flirty conversations with celebrities over a plate of chicken and chips posted a note to fans on her Instagram account announcing her retirement and promising one last hurrah in the form of a final run for the show.

She said the idea for Chicken Shop Date came to her when she was 17 and thought she’d meet the love of her life in a chicken shop someday.

“I’ve spent my entire twenties sitting across from the most incredible people, people I’d always dreamt of meeting. All of them charmed me — some more than others — and I definitely charmed them.”

She thanked the fans who came along for the ride, saying Chicken Shop Date was like her own romcom and she had loved sharing it with the world. She said she never thought she’d stop making the series, but feels like it might now be time to go on her “next adventure”.

Before she does, however, she promised fans just a few more dates, telling them Chicken Shop Date: The Final Series was coming soon.

Her YouTube show has propelled Dimoldenberg into a celebrity status of her own. The idea started as a youth magazine column — back when the youth read magazines — and has since grown into an internet powerhouse with 3.4 million subscribers. Her view count has crossed one billion.

As for what comes next, the comedian is working on a young adult drama series with the BBC. She’s also working with MGM on a romcom — and we really can’t think of someone better suited for that.
