Amid all the hype over her latest film project, Sheroes, with Zara Noor Abbas and Ushna Shah, Kinza Hashmi posted the teaser to her segment of the three-part anthology, ‘Artist’, on Thursday.

In the clip posted on social media, Nayyer Ejaz is discussing an artwork with two men — possible buyers — saying it’s an old family heirloom. A message flashes on screen, “Artist or con artist?”

That’s what we think is going on in her story — Hashmi plays a master art forger who makes paintings that look old and storied to sell them at a premium to unsuspecting collectors.

A running theme in the teaser is that people don’t appreciate art and artists and so nobody buys art. “People buy frames, nobody buys art in Pakistan,” one character says.

That doesn’t seem to apply to Hashmi though, as her pieces get sold out.

It’s after another character talks about how artists always operate at a loss financially that Hashmi delivers her iconic line from the trailer, “A lie travels the world as the truth is left tying its shoelaces.”

As the film’s September 18 release draws closer, we’re likely going to see similar teasers for Abbas and Shah’s segments as well.

Abbas plays a cop with a knack for slinging guns, speeding along Karachi roads and defusing explosive situations — of the literal kind. Shah plays a professional boxer faced with a tough challenge but supported through it by her family.

‘Artist’ is written by Amna Mufti and directed by Saqib Khan. Sheroes is produced by Imran Hussain and made by Geo Films in collaboration with Sindh Films — which operates under the Government of Sindh.
