What comes to mind when someone mentions Hania Aamir? Most people would mention her TV roles or her fun-loving social media presence. Some of our more attentive readers might mention her advocacy and her role as the national ambassador for UN Women.

For World Youth Boxing Champion Usman Wazeer, the actor isn’t just a pretty face — she’s a fighter and a very good one at that.

He was appearing on an episode of Geo Podcast with Mubashir Hashmi on March 21 when the host brought up his training of various high profile celebrities, including Aamir. The boxer said fans only saw one side of hers, noting that her on-screen persona is “cute and delicate”.

Behind the scenes, he said, “the way she boxes and spars, she has an energy in her that fans just haven’t seen”.

When Hashmi said the actor doesn’t share this side of hers as much, Wazeer said that was deliberate. “I had told her not to share yet, I don’t share her videos either. We’ll share them now, after this podcast,” he said.

The boxing champ boasts an impressive record aside from his celebrity-training credentials, standing undefeated in his last 18 bouts, 13 of which ended with his opponent getting knocked out. He proudly told the podcast about his last fight, where he defeated an Indian opponent, his third overall, securing a hat-trick over the rival nation.

He said fights against India come with a special kind of pressure because even his mum tells him to finish off his opponent quickly. “This fight shouldn’t go into the second round,” he recalled his mother telling him before a fight.

It wasn’t all smiles and good news though, Wazeer voiced some discontent with the government over its lack of support for boxing.

When asked about Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promising funds to the sport, the boxer said he had no idea where the amount was because he hadn’t received it yet.

The boxer also recalled a similar grant of Rs14 million announced by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in 2025 after Wazeer beat his first Indian opponent. He said the amount remained under processing.

He questioned whether things were always this slow or if his background as a native of Gilgit-Baltistan was making it more difficult. He said he found it a bit disheartening when people back home asked why athletes in other provinces were able to get funding for their sports when he wasn’t.
