The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows Peter Parker down on his luck
Warning: Major spoiler ahead for Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
We’ve said earlier how excited we are to see Tom Holland on screen again as Spider-Man, but nothing prepared us for the emotional rollercoaster that is the newly released trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Peter Parker has seemingly lost everything after asking Doctor Strange to erase everyone’s memory of him at the end of the last film. His girlfriend MJ (Zendaya, reportedly Holland’s actual wife) doesn’t remember him, nor does his best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon).
We see him struggle to accept the girl of his dreams with another man and stare longingly at Leeds. But if you think that’s the end of Parker’s misery, you’re wrong, he’s also losing his powers as part of a mutation in his spider DNA.
Did we mention Scorpion (Michael Mando) is trying to kill Parker? Oh, The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) wouldn’t mind killing him either if it means he can continue on in his signature violent ways.
So, to recap, Spider-Man is a friendless nobody whose powers have been weakened and there are at least two guys who wouldn’t mind having his head on their walls. What is a teenage superhero to do?
Well, that’s where Dr Bruce Banner — yes, The Hulk — (Mark Ruffalo) comes in to explain how Parker’s spider side is in the middle of a transition between life cycles, leaving him temporarily vulnerable. Should he make it through, it will be a “rebirth” — or, a Brand New Day.
We don’t have much more of the plot right now, but we’re even more excited than we were earlier to see just how it all plays out. Does Parker get his friends back? Do his powers return? Does he even survive the movie? All will be revealed when the film hits theatres on July 31.
