Going loco for local: I tried Aroma Farmacy’s Rosemary Oil for my chronic hair fall — here’s what happened

If you're expecting a miracle cure, there's no such thing, but as part of a wider routine, this oil is worth using.

If you’ve spent any time on HairTok (or, frankly, anywhere on the internet), you already know rosemary oil has been crowned the holy grail of anti–hair fall products. It’s the girl they told you not to worry about — the one everyone swears transformed their hairline, filled in their patches, and basically saved their life.

So, when a box of Aroma Farmacy goodies arrived at the Images office, I took it as a sign. Fate. Destiny. Or maybe just good PR.

As someone who has been dealing with chronic hair fall for years, the kind that requires actual medical treatment, scalp serums, supplements, and a Google search history that would make dermatologists cry, I am both the ideal test subject and the worst. Ideal, because I can tell immediately when something irritates my scalp. Worst, because real results for people like me rarely come from a single ingredient.

Still, I was curious.

How I used it

I paired Aroma Farmacy’s Rosemary Essential Oil with the brand’s Almond Oil — essential oils are very high in concentration and should always be diluted unless you enjoy setting your scalp on fire. A few drops of rosemary into a generous amount of almond oil, mixed in the palm, and applied directly to the scalp with a gentle massage.

I used it twice over two weeks, keeping the mixture on for an hour or so before shampooing as normal.

The experience

First, let’s talk scent: rosemary oil has that crisp, herbal, slightly medicinal fragrance that makes you feel like you’re doing something good for your hair, even before you see results. Paired with the almond oil, the mix felt lightweight and non-greasy, a big plus for anyone who hates feeling like a deep-fried samosa.

The application was soothing. No stinging, no redness, no post-wash dryness. Aroma Farmacy’s version, in particular, didn’t feel harsh, something that can’t be said for every locally available essential oil claiming to be “100 per cent pure”.

But did it help the hair fall?

Here’s the honest truth — with chronic hair fall, two uses won’t magically change anything, and they didn’t for me. My shedding didn’t suddenly stop, my hairline didn’t sprout baby hair overnight, and my shower drain still looked like a crime scene.

But what I did notice was how healthy my scalp felt afterwards. The mild inflammation I often deal with calmed down, my roots felt softer and the overall feel of my hair was noticeably smoother post-wash.

For someone managing hair fall as a medical condition, I don’t expect topical products to perform miracles. But as a supportive, nourishing treatment that complements my doctor-approved routine? Aroma Farmacy’s rosemary oil held its own.

If you’re already on the rosemary-oil bandwagon, Aroma Farmacy offers a gentle, pleasantly scented, budget-friendly option that won’t irritate your scalp — their Rosemary Essential Oil is for Rs670 and their carrier Almond Oil is for Rs770.

If you’re expecting a miracle cure, though, remember, hair fall that’s rooted in hormones, deficiencies, stress, or genetics needs more than a trending essential oil. But as part of a wider routine? Worth trying.

Well 2 weeks is not enough. You need to give it a few months at the very least. Every person is unique. Also age is a factor. Secondly you also need to look into why you are losing hair. Genetics? Stress? Diet? Lack of vitamins and minerals? Hair medical conditions? Depending on the answer you have to take appropriate action. Nothing you can do about genetics though. Rosemary is essentially good for scalp health and the blood circulation.

Honestly a 70ml of pure rosemary oil is not feasible at 670 rupees I have my eye on a bottle of 30 ml online and from foreign outlet, but it will set me back nearly 3000 rupees (discounted from original price of10.000). Eve if you look at other brands outside Pakistan, pure rosemary oil is very very expensive. So I don't know how a local brand can do it for a faction of the price.
